Description cheflers, types and varieties

Sheflera belongs to the Araliev family, in its family there are up to six hundred different representatives. In nature, the plant can grow as a tree up to twenty meters in height; at home, the maximum flower height reaches 2-2.5 meters.

Tropical and temperate climate is considered to be a favorable place for growing sheflers. A decorative highlight is the carved clawed foliage, which looks like umbrellas. The stem-shaped part of the leaves reaches thirty centimeters in length.

Let's recall the most common types of chefs.

Star-leaved view - the plant has a straight glossy trunk and slightly twisted leaves. The people have the name "brassaya radiant".

This type includes the following varieties:

  • Nova - a characteristic difference is the lemon shade of the foliage, which has jagged edges at the edges, outwardly the leaves resemble oak;
  • Green gold - mustard-colored leaves.

Graceful cheflera - this type is considered the most exotic and unusual. Has a second name "dizigoteka most elegant". The maximum plant height is two meters.

The leaves have an attractive emerald green color, dissection up to 13 parts, elongated up to 35 centimeters. The trunk is gray, straight, spotted. The difference from other types is the need for special and constant care.

There are such varieties:

  • Castor;
  • Gemeni;
  • Bianca.

Wood cheflera, also known as Arboricola Heptapleurum, is the most common of its kind. In appearance and growth it resembles a small liana. Used as a decorative composition, several seedlings or sprouts can be planted in one pot at once.

The varieties include:

  • Amat;
  • Gold Chapel Variegata;
  • Janine.

Having dealt with the variety, you should familiarize yourself with the care recommendations.

Care rules: planting, watering, pruning

Even an amateur is able to take care of a cheflera, since you do not need to have special care skills.

There are several simple rules, the observance of which is necessary for the normal life of the plant.

  • This flower prefers settled, warm water.
  • Watering should be done in moderation, the plant suffers from both flooded and overdried soil.
  • If the ground is slightly damp, you should wait a couple of days, and only then water the flower, otherwise the roots will rot.
  • During dormancy, which lasts from November to February, the chef is watered occasionally.

Good drainage will help with proper watering. Several holes should be punched at the bottom of the container or pot, and a layer of expanded clay should be poured under the main soil. This layer and holes remove excess water and protect the root system from rotting and souring.

Spraying from a spray bottle is useful. It is especially effective to refresh the leaves during dormancy when watering is minimal. This will allow the plant to maintain a presentable and lively appearance.

Planting: plant the plant in a large pot, taking into account the fact that in the future it will reach a height of about two meters.

Since the plant is tropical, you cannot plant it in the cold. When placing a flowerpot with a plant, drafts and proximity to electric heating devices should be avoided.

A place on a lighted windowsill is considered ideal, preferably on the west side. The south side is not suitable, as the abundant ultraviolet radiation will negatively affect the leaves and their appearance.

The optimum temperature for planting and further growth is from + 18 C to + 22 C. In other cases, the leaves may fall off and growth will stop.

From March until the beginning of autumn, fertilizing is carried out twice a week, since at this time the flower is actively developing and growing. Fertilizers are used for feeding palms or exotic indoor plants.

Pruning. The procedure is carried out to form the top and shape of the tree. If you cut the crown correctly, then the bush will sprout on the sides and the plant will take on a round shape. To create a tree-like shape, the side leaves are cut off, and the top is preserved. The owner decides which form to choose, taking into account his preferences and the interior of the room.

Periodically, the shefler is root-cut to renew the plant and strengthen its root system. The top can be used as a cutting by rooting it in the ground.

We offer you to watch a video about caring for a sheflera:

Sheflera flourishes only in tropical and beneficial conditions for her.

The inflorescences are large, have a burgundy red color. When the buds bloom more, the color becomes paler, the burgundy shade remains only in the center.

At home, the chef often does not bloom. If this happens, then the flowers will be small, and in shape they will resemble tentacles.

But do not be upset, the flower is usually grown because of the beautiful leaves that look wonderful in a well-lit room.

Transplant chiefs

The transplant is performed as follows:

  • A three-centimeter drainage is laid at the bottom of the tank, consisting of porous expanded clay and fine gravel (you can use broken brick). Now prepared, fertilized soil is poured over the drainage. It is better to transplant in early or mid-spring.
  • Young plants can be planted in several pieces in one large container, and then, when the crown grows, transplant them separately.
  • A young plant is transplanted every year, and an adult one after a year. Every year you need to purchase a pot four centimeters larger than the previous one, so that the root can strengthen and grow. At the same time, large trees should be transferred during transplantation in order to avoid injury to the roots.

Top dressing is carried out after the plant has released new shoots.

Breeding cheflers

Reproduction is carried out in three ways:

  • cuttings;
  • seeds;
  • layering.

Seed reproduction. The seed is soaked in a warm growth stimulant, and then transplanted into the ground in the winter.

Cut tops are used for grafting. The length of the handle should be 12 to 16 centimeters. The twig is cut off with a disinfected blade along the oblique. Cuttings are initially soaked and grown in nutrient solution using hydroponics.

Reproduction by layering. The manipulation is carried out in March. Small cuts are made on the trunk, which are then covered with moss (before this, the moss must be held in a phytohormonal agent). From above, the bush is covered with a film.

The first roots should appear in thirty days. After two months, the top of the crown and the fresh horse system are trimmed and transplanted into a pot.

After a while, the roots will grow back. This type of propagation is suitable for adult, large plants.

Shefler in the house: signs and superstitions

The people attribute miraculous properties to this flower.

Here is some of them:

  • If the foliage of the cheflera is smooth and shiny, this indicates that prosperity and peace await you soon.
  • Dark and curled leaves indicate a series of quarrels.
  • Falling foliage indicates failure and disease.
  • If the plant has stopped growing, it means that soon the owner will expect theft of property.
  • Active growth indicates an addition to the family.

Believe it or not, everyone decides for himself. In fact, all of these factors can indicate improper care.

So, the cheflera is a very beautiful and, as some believe, a magical plant. With proper care, it will delight the owner's eye for many years.
