Question: Lawn in a hanging garden
I built a basement (50 m3) and above I intend to sow a lawn and some plants, I would like to know: - if in the part of the basement where there is little land about 20 cm I can put plants, - if in addition to the normal earth of lawn I have to add something so that the lawn is perfect, the lawn is in partial shade, the lawn will be practiced by children and not by animals. The lawn is about 100 square meters and is located in Trentino at about 600 meters above sea level.

Lawn in a hanging garden: Question: Lawn in a hanging garden
Dear Mr. Patton,
We thank you for contacting us regarding your questions and in order of response to the various question points. We inform you:
1. In the hanging garden with 20 cm of soil it can put plants suitable for the limited availability of the land, in general they are low-sized shrubs with a root system that does not develop excessively and in any case specific for this type of situation. Please hear about a local nurseryman.
2. With regard to the type of turf, we would like to point out: that if the soil reported is very clay we recommend mixing common sand in the proportion up to 10 - 20% of the volume. In any case, it is a good idea to mix peat with a quality soil improver to favor plant rooting and the seed sprouting of the grasslands that the plant has planned.
